Values intent and outcome over method and precedent.
// 01 · ToolsProcesses are tools, not commandments.
// 02 · ServiceGood processes serve the outcome, not the other way around.
// 03 · SmallestThe best process is the smallest one that produces the result.
The original infographic put a single sentence at the top and a small set of supporting principles underneath. The sentence has worn well:
Values intent and outcome over method and precedent.
The supporting principles, lightly cleaned up:
- Processes are tools, not commandments.
- Good processes serve the outcome; outcomes don't serve the process.
- Method and precedent are useful as starting points and dangerous as endpoints.
- The best process is the smallest one that produces the result.
- If the situation doesn't fit the process, the situation isn't wrong.
That's the worldview. The rest of the writing on this site is an application of it to one operational topic at a time. For the introduction in full, see Introducing the Process Pragmatist.
